How to Choose a Team Kit for a Football Academy in the UAE

, by Football Kult, 3 min reading time

Choosing a kit for a football academy is about much more than picking a nice colour. The right kit helps players feel part of something, makes coaching sessions easier to run and gives parents confidence that the academy is organised. In the UAE, it also has to cope with heat, humidity and a lot of washing. Here is a practical checklist to work through before you place an order.

1. Start with your colours and identity

Pick a main colour and a secondary colour that reflect your academy's badge and are easy to recognise from the touchline. Think about how they will look in photos and on social media, since that is where many parents will first see your teams. Simple, strong colour combinations usually age better than busy designs.

2. Plan for colour clashes

Under the Laws of the Game, the two teams must wear colours that distinguish them from each other and from the match officials. If your academy plays in a league or tournaments, a second kit in a contrasting colour saves a lot of last-minute bib-swapping. Many academies choose a light away kit to contrast with a darker home kit.

3. Don't forget goalkeepers

Goalkeepers must wear colours that distinguish them from the other players and the officials, so budget for separate goalkeeper shirts in at least one contrasting colour for each age group. Padded or long-sleeved options are worth considering for younger keepers.

4. Choose fabric for the UAE climate

For training and matches in Dubai, lightweight, breathable, moisture-wicking polyester is the practical choice. It dries quickly, holds its shape through frequent washing and is more comfortable in the heat than heavy cotton. Lighter colours also absorb less heat in the sun than very dark ones.

5. Get sizing right across age groups

Academies typically cover a wide range of ages, from young children to teenagers and sometimes adult teams. Collect sizes from parents in advance, use the supplier's size chart rather than guessing, and order a few extra shirts in common sizes for new joiners and growth spurts during the season.

6. Decide on names, numbers and badges

Agree on a numbering system early. Will numbers be fixed per player for the season, or shared within a squad? Do you want player names on the back? Rules on shirt numbers vary between leagues and tournaments, so check with each organiser before you finalise names and numbers. Your badge, and any sponsor logos you have the right to use, should be placed consistently across every age group.

7. Build a full kit list

Most academies need more than a shirt. A typical order might include:

  • Match shirt, shorts and socks (home and away)
  • Goalkeeper kit
  • Training tops and bibs
  • Tracksuits or warm-up jackets for travel and presentations
  • Coach and staff wear

8. Leave enough time

Personalised team kit takes time to produce, especially for larger orders with names and numbers. Plan your order well before the season or tournament starts. Share your first match date when you ask for a quote and we will confirm the lead time for your order.

9. Think about reorders

New players will join throughout the year. Choose a supplier and a kit range you can reorder from easily, so that a player who joins in February matches the rest of the squad.

How Football Kult can help

Through our team and corporate orders service, Football Kult prints full sets for clubs, academies and company teams, with names, numbers and your own team badge. We can help you pick colours, sort sizes for each age group and put together a complete kit list. Team orders of 10 or more are quoted individually.

For one-off shirts for coaches, gifts or awards, our custom printing adds any name and number, and our vintage football polos make a smart option for staff and parents on matchday.
